Overview

Uniquely located within the boundaries of a major city, Nairobi National Park is home to over 80 species of mammals and 400 species of birds.   Some of the park’s wildlife is migratory and when vegetation and water are present outside the park, they move out into the Kitengela Dispersal area through the unfenced southern boundary.  The Kitengela dispersal area is necessary for the migration of many wild ungulates to help maintain the park’s genetic diversity.   Ensuring that this dispersal area remains open to migratory wildlife will require understanding the values of private landowners in the region and may require payment to these landowners for the protection of migratory corridors.
