Kanyabaha-Rushebeya in Uganda is one of the most densely populated regions in Africa. Of the hundreds of wetlands that used to exist here, only one remains. The wetland is an important resource. It provides immeasurable benefits to local people in the form of fish and raw materials for their subsistence and for drying and crafting items to sell outside of the landscape. The wetland also provides habitat for numerous species of birds, some of which are threatened or endangered. This case study examines the challenges facing a local Ugandan NGO as they try to save it.
