Overview

Medicinal plants are integral components of health care systems throughout the world. The use of medicinal plants requires sophisticated knowledge about their use and conservation.  This case study focuses on the knowledge and use of medicinal plants in the Pamir Mountains of Afghanistan and Tajikistan.  The specific objectives of this case study are to illustrate how plants are central to human wellbeing, how food and medicine are interrelated, and how knowledge of plants can contribute to biodiversity conservation.
