Overview

The local food movement is an approach to lowering the ecological footprints of our food supply. However, a main bottleneck in making local foods mainstream is ensuring that consumers know about it and have access to it. This case study examines how an active movement by local farmers, ranchers, and community organizers over the past 30 years has sought to maintain the rural landscape and encourage ecologically-based agriculture by developing local food markets.
